Do not apply MELLERUD Teak Oil on top of dirt or oil deposits to prevent oil from darkening and getting black over time. Clean surface thoroughly using MELLERUD Teak Cleaner, remove tenacious stains with fine abrasive paper and clean again using a cleaner to remove the dust from all pores. Let dry well. Apply Villa Mellerud Teak Oil thinly to dust-free wood using a brush, a roller or a clean rag. Work in direction of the grain so the oil can optimally penetrate the surface. Remove any residual oil after 10 minutes using a soft cloth. Let the furniture dry at a protected location. Apply two layers during the first treatment. Apply the second layer after about 4 hours. Repeat treatment after first signs of weather effects. One application suffices. In most cases, two annual treatments suffice.
After several treatments the color tone of the wood gets more intense and the surface gets darker. Important: MELLERUD Teak Oil is not suited for cedar and soft wood types. If the oil application is not repeated, weathering sets in. A cleaning with MELLERUD Teak Cleaner accelerates this process. Tips for protecting teak furniture during the winter: In order to prevent weathering of the furniture in cold and rainy climates the manufacturers recommend keeping the furniture in an unheated room (basement, garage). Caution! Spontaneous combustion possible when soaking a rag with the product. Soak rag in water after use.
